coolers vs fleece sheets? I am buying a cooler online. This one store has cotton and fleece sheets.
What is the difference between the two?
and i am getting this for tb.
what size (approximately) would work, give or take alittle ? Robin P replied: "I would buy a cotton cooler, I've always used them and love them so much! They are much easier to wash. I would just buy a horse sized sheet.
Awnser mine??.;_ylv=3?qid=20081027162038AAHlBc4"
Wendy R replied: "Cotton would breath a little better then the fleece. The fleece would provide slightly more warmth. Fleece is a little more difficult to clean and pretty much any shavings in the area will find their way and stick to the sheet. Cotton is easier to clean. Even though fleece can be a little more of a hassle to clean I prefer them for coolers since they offer more warmth. I usually use my fleece cooler when I have to bath and its cold out. But my cotton cooler is nice to have in the summer time too.
As for what size well it depends. Some brands run small, med, large, extra large. Where as others run in sizes. If it is sized then you need to measure your horse. Tape a tape measure and place it in the center of your horses chest. Then wrap it around your horse till you get to the back and end your tape measure at the middle of the tail. That would be your size. If your TB is average sized then a medium or 76-78 would probably fit. If he is a longer or bulky TB then I would go up a size." Looking for FLEECE sheet sets black or red? Hi, I am looking for Fleece sheet set(s) in Black, gray or red, or hot pink. I need for a Full size bed. I tryed ebay and got no luck. I have tryed stores around me with no luck. RBS replied: "Are you in Canada?
Try Zellers. I bought my bro a black jersey fleece sheet set and a red jersey fleece quilt cover from there for Xmas. The sheet set was $60."
eskie lover replied: "I got my red ones at Ikea (be aware, wash them in cold water and add vinegar to the rinse to set the dye and wash them alone the first time) and I got the black ones at Anna's Linens."
td1693 replied: "Amazon.com or Ikea would be your best bets."
Jen C replied: "Try they are great!" If it is reallyyy cold can i put a fleece sheet under a medium weight blanket? instead of buying a heavyweight? Melly replied: "why not try it"
midnight_ashes replied: "Of course you can! Layers are better for keeping horses (and humans) warm, as the warm air gets trapped between the layers, offering better insulation. It is always advisable to put a fleece/cotton sheet under a big rug anyway as then the grease and dirt from the coat goes onto the sheet and not the big rug, as obviously the sheet can just be put in the washing machine. This helps to keep both horse and big rug clean! One of my horses is currently wearing a 200g underrug with a full neck, a 300g stable rug with a standard neck and then a 400g turnout on top to keep him warm (he feels the cold). So long as the rugs fit well and are removed and adjusted daily, the horse will be fine!"
Victoria L replied: "it depends on where you live. if you live up north and its constantly in the 20s and snowing than yeah use one. if your down south and its between 40-30 or even the high 20s your horse should fine"
JJ replied: "You could, but I probably wouldn't if your horse will be outside without a blanket later on.
I got told from an experienced horse person:
Getting cold is how a horses' hair grows. If they stay warm during winter they will not grow their winter coat, because their winter coat is for keeping them warm."
? replied: "a fleece sheet and a medium weight blanket will not be as warm as a heavy blanket.
clearly you can do as you choose.
but i'm pretty sure the horse would choose the heavy blanket."
Emily R replied: "yes of course you can i double blanket my horse every night!"
Daisy replied: "I don't put any kind of blanket on my horse unless it gets below zero. But I don't clip him, keep him in a heated barn or under lights. If anything it is a precautionary method to keep him from sweating and getting chilled. If you get too hot with your jacket on you can take it off. A horse cannot. If, however you do clip him, keep him in a heated barn, or keep him under lights, if he looks cold up the heaviness of his blanket."
Carol replied: "Sure, I have done it lots."
luckyslove2 replied: "Yes you can. i have seen so many people do it. the fleece keeps them warm and also removes sweat from their bodies after a workout-if it is a fleece cooler. but if you do buy a heavyweight, then you don't have to worry about the fleece sheet underneath. i have considered doing that with my horse too. just make sure that you check that he/she doesn't get hot with it on, if it does i would go with buying a heavyweight. but the horse will survive w/o a blanket at all if they have a winter coat. so if it has a winter coat, they should be fine without a fleece sheet or a heavy weight. so if they have a winter coat, no fleece sheet is needed.
hope this helps!"
gotta be named Lucille replied: "Yes of course.
This is my regular winter blanketing plan.
The layers help keep your horse warmer than a single blanket as the air gets trapped between the multiple layers (and a single blanket can get drafty as they move around,) and the layering allows your horse to stay clean and comfy even if the outer blanket gets dirty.
Think of it this way, what would you prefer, a t-shirt and heavy coat or a fuzzy fleece and a jacket. I choose the fleece and the jacket =)
Just remember to get one that isn't too big or bulky, you don't want to restrict your horses movement or create a big lumpy uncomfortable mess.
"
Caroline Betta Pro replied: "Of course you can, people do that all the time at the big Jumper stable I go to. Its your money, so you use the supplies that are available to you.
Hope this helps!
Carrie :D" Fleece Horse Sheets...? Does anyone use fleece sheets or have used them before? How well do they hold up? I was thinking of just getting fleece sheets for the winter to keep the ice and snow off their backs if they're outside. I just don't want to buy them if they aren't going to hold up very well.
Normally I never use blankets. My horses are used to cold winters and are usually fine. The only reason I was thinking about getting them is because last winter was bad. I only plan on using the sheets if its snowing bad. My horses are usually turned out for about 8 hours a day...minus workouts and such. DeeDee replied: "when I first got horses, I bought blankets for the really cold days, not realizing that they were OK with their winter coats, since they stay in the pasture all year long. I put them in stalls or pens on those cold, cold days, and they proceeded to tear all of them up by pulling and playing with any flapping edges or straps, and if another horse could reach them, they did the same thing.
So, we don't use blankets anymore, and they really don't act like the cold bothers them. I don't clip my horses, if that matters."
leah m replied: "fleece rugs are mainly used for showing or as stable rugs they dont hold up very good if the horse is rolling around in them and getting up to wat most horses do and the rugs get very cold if they get wet ur better off buying a waterproof rug or a canvas"
see arr harr replied: "Fleece will wick a damp horse dry; the moisture will come off the horse and onto the fleece. However, when the fleece is wet it can't do much else, and if it gets past a certain degree of wetness, the moisture will go back onto the horse. A fleece is very good for drying off a sweaty horse, or one who has been standing in the rain or has just had a bath - but it will not protect him from ice or snow. (Wet fleece + freezing temperatures = frozen fleece.) For that, he will either need his own coat, or, if that's not tough enough, a warm waterproof windproof breathable rug."
tootie503 replied: "Horses are completly fine without a sheet or blanket. As long as they have some kind of shelter to go under. Now if it gets really cold bring them up and stall them."
midnight_ashes replied: "You don't want a fleece rug for outside - it will get wet and your horse will freeze to death.
If you want something just to keep the snow off their backs, get a lightweight turnout rug (sometimes called a rain sheet). This is literally a waterproof covering with no filling/padding.
Whatever you get, make sure it fits, make sure its designed for turnout and make sure its waterproof.
For indoors, fleeces are fantastic (just for the record)"
Rhi replied: "First of all, don't get fleece if you're going to get something. Get woollen. Fleece is weak, flimsy, and prone to breaking, whereas a good quality properly sewn woollen will last ages and ages.
As for rugging them in a non-waterproof sheet of any kind though- BIG NO NO in wet weather.
Rain etc naturally falls off a horse's coat. However, if they are in the rain with a non-waterproof rug on, the rug gets wet, horse gets wet and cold (because it is lying close on the skin), horse gets unhappy. Possibly catches a cold.
Definitely recommend a lightweight (unlined even) waterproof rug- preferably a canvas as they are more breathable and durable than synthetics, if you want a bit of extra protection." Can I put my horse's fleece sheet in the dryer? or should i hang it to dry? Loz replied: "Hang it out to dry...they shrink very easily!!!!"
Pretty.Green.Pony replied: "i would hang it to dry as it will shrink"
amyapplebe replied: "If it does not say you can on the tag, I wouldn't. I dried one and it totally dissolved in the dryer. I had to dry several cycles of empty and take the dryer tube off and vacuum it to clean my dryer out."
sstevevin replied: "put my wife in the washing machine with the fleece, and hang um both"
Lasarre4 replied: "Hang it out to dry. Not only will the dryer wreck the sheet, the sheet will wreck the dryer."
Amy S replied: "The fleece tends to stay much softer and nicer if you don't put it in the dryer. Once it goes through the dryer, it gets all those little balls of fleece and makes it rough. To keep it looking nice, I would hang it to dry. You can machine wash it though. I use Woolite and the gentle cycle just to be safe. I've also heard that the Leather Therapy detergent keeps it looking nicer than regular detergent, but I've never actually tried it."
kbuff replied: "definitely hang out to dry" fleece blanket decorating? ok so me and my best friend are making each other fleece tie blankets for Christmas were taking a solid light pink color and some design and tying them together and we are wondering how to decorate them like could we put pup up paint on them or something? or put something in between the two fleece sheets before we tie them?

Thanks guys!!! :) Batfink replied: "Please find a site below that may assist you with your question regarging a Heavy Blanket." problems with sheets? i have fleece sheets that are awesome, but my gf and i have a problem then whenver we are in bed we keep sliding back and forth, any advice Liz C replied: "...Get new sheets just for sexual intercourse?"
Cyndi M replied: "do it on the floor"
Pork C replied: "Yeah, I agree with Liz C. Get some "sex sheets" and you'll be alright." why does my dog sometimes chew fabrics? trousers legs, dressing gown belt ends (fleece), sheet corners. Its not a continual thing, just occassionally and i never catch him doing it. He doesn't appear to have tooth ache. JayB replied: "Get him some toys to play with. And spray some "Bitter Apple" to keep him from chewing on other stuff. It doesn't stain or cause an odor. It just takes bad."
JDDS replied: "he might want toys. give him a rope and play tugawar with him"
melissa k replied: "Is he chewing them or eating them? If just chewing, make sure that these things are inaccessible to him (put them away, put him in a crate when he can't be supervised) and that he has plenty of toys to play with.
If he is eating them, he has a condition called pica. Sometimes a nutritional deficiency or disease of the pancreas will cause this, so you should have him examined by a vet. Otherwise it is probably an OCD, in which case drugs may be required."
tbmpurple replied: "my dog dose that too its just what they do just take the dog to the vet and give it those bones that take care of your teeth and dont let it eat fabric"
cheryl05346 replied: "I'm not sure why he's chewing on this stuff. It may be because of a nervous habit. My dog will sometimes lick pants, sheets, and fabrics sometimes out of nervousness and I have to stop him. I would be very careful however if he's chewing the fabrics because he can ingest something and it can get caught in his stomach or intestine which can cause major problems. I would take him to the vet get a blood test done to make sure he doesn't have any deficiencies. If the blood test comes out ok and he's got a clean bill of health I would seriously consider cosultanting a behavioralist on this."
brittany r replied: "Sometimes our dogs did that when they are mad at the particular person. Buy him a soft toy thats just for him, he may just be bored. The toy will give him something to chew on."
lushpoppy replied: "give him a bone to play with"
kumala replied: "my dog chewed curtains etc i sprayed fabric with deodrant(non marking) dogs hate the bitter taste and learn to leave them alone.tip supplied by dog trainer, perfectly harmless."
cotterpin replied: "he could be teething.dogs go through this phase as pups and again when they are about a year old.
you should get him plenty of chew toys for him to have instead.they get bored with just one so get a few and give him a different one each day.
if he seems to chew the same few items all the time u can get "anti-chew spray" at any pet shop.it doesn't stain or damage any fabrics,it just tastes rotten and keeps the teeth marks and holes away!!!" |
